 Issues and Interventions

Janakalyan is a team of professionals committed for people’s empowerment. It is presently working in the northern districts of Karnataka with various activities. Its thrust area being empowerment of the underprivileged sections of the society, all the programs are implemented through people’s institutions constituted by women as well men from amongst the target groups. It has stepped into 12th year of its developmental interventions, although the founders have a long history of more than 22 years in the development sector through educational interventions in the forgotten areas of the district.

However, Janakalyan believes that its existence could be justified by serving its four holy mothers viz. Manavimata (woman), Bhoomata (soil), Gomata (animals) and Gangamata (water). Janakalyan has learnt through its experience that making agriculture a profitable enterprise is an important issue and is a cause for Illiteracy, thus unemployment and poverty. All these are interlinked and can be eradicated if the root cause is uprooted. Presently it has few major programs implemented through people’s institutions to eradicate the root causes of poverty.

To serve its four holy mothers, Janakalyan has designed 7 tools as framework of its interventions and these are -

1)    Jana Sanghatan (Women Development & Empowerment Program)

2)    Jana Krishi (Livelihood Improvement through IIFS)

3)    Jana Jal (Rainwater Harvesting for Greening and Drinking)

4)    Jana Udyog (Rural Entrepreneurship Development Program)

5)    Jana Shiksha (Reaching the Un-reached through Innovative Education)

6)    Jana Shakti (Renewable Sources of Energy Harnessing) and

7)    Jana Raksha (Health for all Animals including human beings).
